MINDFUL SELF-COMPASSION COURSE

“I am making a home inside myself.

A shelter of kindness where everything is forgiven, everything allowed

–a quiet patch of sunlight to stretch out without hurry,

where all that has been banished and buried

is welcomed, spoken, listened to –released.

A fiercely friendly place I can claim as my very own.” - Julia Fehrenbacher

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC)

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an evidence-based, 8-week training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. Developed by Dr. Kristin Neff and Dr. Christopher Germer, MSC combines cutting-edge research with clinical expertise to teach core principles and practices that help participants respond to difficult moments with greater kindness, care, and understanding.

Self-Compassion Is Learnable

Self-compassion is a skill that anyone can learn—even those who didn’t receive enough affection in childhood or who feel uncomfortable being kind to themselves. It’s a courageous stance that helps us face suffering, including the pain we unintentionally cause ourselves through self-criticism, isolation, or overidentification.

Cultivating self-compassion builds emotional strength and resilience, allowing us to:

Acknowledge our shortcomings without judgment

Motivate ourselves with encouragement rather than harshness

Forgive ourselves when needed

Deepen our connections with others

Live with greater authenticity and self-acceptance

The Three Components of Self-Compassion

Self-compassion consists of three essential elements:

  • Self-Kindness: Meeting our struggles with warmth and understanding, rather than self-judgment

  • Common Humanity: Recognizing that suffering is a shared human experience, not a personal failing

  • Mindfulness: Observing our thoughts and feelings with balanced awareness, without over-identifying with them

Together, these components create a foundation for a warm-hearted, connected presence—both with ourselves and with others.

Health Benefits of Self-Compassion

A growing body of research shows that self-compassion is strongly linked to:

Improved emotional well-being

Reduced anxiety, depression, and stress

Greater resilience in the face of adversity

Healthier habits, such as better sleep, diet, and exercise

More satisfying personal and professional relationships

And it’s often easier to learn than people expect.

What You’ll Learn
